Here Are the Answers....What 65 Teams Will Hear Their Names

What a great effort by N.C. State. They really put themselves into a position to get in, but came up just short. Since Texas, Kansas, Wisconsin and Ohio State are all safely in the field, here ate the 65 teams that the committee should call today:

  1. Atlantic East (1) Albany (Vermont did not even get a shot off with the ball and down 1)
  2. ACC (7) Duke, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Va Tech, Georgia Tech, B.C.
  3. Atlantic Sun (1) Belmont
  4. Atlantic 10 (2) G.W., Xavier
  5. Big East (7) Georgetown, Villanova, Pitt, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Marquette
  6. Big Sky (1) Weber St
  7. Big South (1) Winthrop
  8. Big 10 (5) Ohio St, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan St, Purdue
  9. Big 12 (4) Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech
  10. Big West (1) Long Beach St
  11. Colonial (3)...yes, 3 VCU, Drexel, Old Dominion
  12. Conference USA (1) Memphis
  13. Horizon (2) Wright St, Butler
  14. Ivy (1) Penn
  15. MAAC (1) Niagara
  16. MAC (1) Miami (Ohio)
  17. MEAC (1) Florida A&M
  18. Mid Continent (1) Oral Roberts
  19. Missouri Valley (2) Creighton, Southern Illinois
  20. Mountain West (2) BYU, UNLV
  21. Northeast (1) Central Connecticut St
  22. Ohio Valley (1) Eastern Kentucky
  23. Pac 10 (5) Arizona, Oregon, USC, Washington St, UCLA
  24. Patriot (1) Holy Cross
  25. SEC (4) Florida, Vandy, Kentucky, Tennessee
  26. Southern (2) Davidson, Appalachian St
  27. Southland (1) Tx A&M CC
  28. Sunbelt (1) North Texas
  29. SWAC (1) Jackson St
  30. WAC (2) New Mexico St, Nevada
  31. WCC (1) Gonzaga

Last Six Out:

  1. West Virginia
  2. Akron
  3. Florida St
  4. Stanford
  5. Kansas St.
  6. Illinois

Two things: I recognize that they will probably not take three colonial team nor Appalachian St from the Southern Conference, but they would be so much better to watch (or Akron) than a middle of the Pac BCS team. Hopefully the committee agrees, although I expect two of my last 6 out will prbably get in over a third colonial team (probably Drexel) and App. St.

The Four #1 Seeds:

  1. Big 10 Champ
  2. UCLA
  3. UNC
  4. Florida

The Four #2 Seeds:

  1. Kansas (they will lose today)
  2. Big 10 Runner Up
  3. Georgetown
  4. Texas

Enjoy the selection show. Be back tomorrow with thoughts about the draw.....

this was the worst and most inconsistent the job the Committee has done in yeas

AFA not getting in with an RPI of 30? Well they lost 4 in a row...so how does Duke, with 10 losses, and losers of 7 of their last 11 get a 6 seed if RPI does not mean much?

Syracuse not getting in is a crime. 22-10, 10-6 in Big East.

As a matter of fact, the Committee continued their long tradition of worshipping the "oldest" conferences: SEC, ACC, Pac 10, & Big 10. How do 7 of 13 ACC teams get in and only 6 of 16 Big East teams get in? If Depaul, Cuse & WV played GT, FSU, & whatever bad ACC team you want to rank 9th it would be a 3-game sweep.

Even more clear in the Seeds: Notre Dame & Lousiville got shafted with 6 seeds

How does Louisville get to play in Lexington? what happened to not giving a 1-3 seed a road disadvantage?

If Arkansas got in, how does NCSU not get in? NCSU beat 3 tourney teams to get to finals

why doesn't committee just make an official rule that Gonzaga mu play out west? And a 10 seed? So they would have been an at large over Drexel with their crummy WCC 14 game gimmes - which they lost a few.

UNLV is ranked 10th in the RPI and they get a 7 seed - and do not get to stay in west despite MWC being rated way above the WCC?

How is OSU not the #1 seed overall? They have 2 less losses than Florida and are #1 in the RPI? How are they not in Midwest region either?

Illinois getting in is a joke.

Stanford - and yes, by writing this, I am blocking at least 30 minutes for a Mills rebuttal in Vegas - but this is the ultimate crime. They were 18-12 against division 1, have an RPI of 65. I can make a case that my SDSU team should have gotten in over them - and I would plunk down major $ on the Aztecs if those 2 teams met on a neutral court.

The Drexel snub really infuriates me. For years, the Committe used the RPI and SOS (which is stupid as SOS is embedded in your RPI), so the mid majors started to play a much tougher non-conf schdule - many on the road or neutral sites. Drexel was 14-5 away from home. Their RPI is 43 - and they are sitting home.

The Committee has a tough job, but they really veered from long-term historical and recent precedents this yea. The criteria is now more subjective than ever.
