Phillies, Mike Winters, Michael Vick, and not so Sexy Rexy

The Phillies are so lovable some times and so depressing and frustrating others. They let a great opportunity in the division slip away, as Washington beat the Mets for the second straight night. But the Phillies wasted home runs from J-Roll, Howard, Utley and Werth and blew a 5-5 lead to lose 10-6. Meanwhile, San Diego scored 4 in the 9th and Colorado overcame a 5-4 deficit on the road to both gain a game on the Fightins'. The Phillies now have to try to beat Hudson and Smoltz the next two nights. As usual, a late season flurry following a bad start left the Philberts with remarkably little room for error (i.e., none) and they may end up just short of the promised land YET AGAIN.

Their late season surge only to end up just short reminds of of my friend Edwin McCain, who sings "Misguided roses they bloom in October, emerging triumphant in time for the season's first....SNOW."

MLB suspended Mike Winters, the despicable ump who baited Milton Bradley, for the rest of the regular season. I am assuming the investigation is ongoing and they will reserve the right to increase the suspension. I reiterate my suggestion that he be suspended without pay until Bradley is able to return to the playing field. Bradley should also be able to go after him financially if this injury costs him money as he is a free agent this offseason. Speaking of idiots....

Hey, Michael Vick. Here's a thought. You have dug yourself a hole so deep you may never come out, a good idea may be to stay on your best behavior. Testing positive for marijuana is really not a good idea. What a buffoon.

The Bears have evidently benched Sexy Rexy in favor of Brian Griese. In my opinion this likely signifies the end of the Grossman era in Chicago as it will be tough to turn the reigns back to him after this type of benching. In my opinion, Griese is not a long term fix as he has proven in the past, having been cut by Denver, Miami, and Tampa Bay this decade. That means that the Bears, who have a championship caliber team in many areas, are needing to start over in 23008 at the QB position. If I were Brian Urlacher or a member of that defense, I would be very unhappy with these developments. To me, it shows that Jerry Angelo is not equipped to build a championship team, and should be replaced as the GM. Ummm, Jerry, you put all the pieces together except the most important one....putz.

I will be back tomorrow. Let's hope the Phils find a way to get to Tim Hudson tonight and they get a better outing from Kyle Lohse than he gave them in his last start.

Dils, back in April you stated that the bad start will end up costing this team - very prophetic.

Looks lik Scioscia amazingly wants to play Boston instead of the Yankees, or his team has just suddenly collapsed.

New BSG home page has a picture of the most gutless thing I have ever seen in baseball: tough guy Varitek going after A-Rod when he still has his mask on. The Captain, #15, is still turning over in his grave as Varitek cheapened the Catcher positiion forever.
